To parents, the list of things that could happen to your child is never-ending, all tragic, whether they be accidental or not.

What if you lost your child and never knew the cause? For the family of Katherine Korzilius, 6, that horror became their reality on August 7, 1996.

Katherine was discovered unconscious with a skull fracture that led to her death only six houses away from her own. What happened remains a mystery.

The beginning of a mystery.

At 4:00 pm, after a day of errands, including buying a birthday gift for her husband, Paul, Katherineā€™s mother, Nancy, pulled up to their communal mailboxes with Katherine and her 9-year-old brother Chris in tow.

Katherine asked if she could walk home. Nancy agreedš‘‹sure was the last word she said to her daughter (3). Home was only four houses away, and it was a path Katherine knew. So while Katherine was to take the short way home, Nancy and Chris drove the long way.

When she didnā€™t make it home, Chris went looking for her. He returned, telling his mother he couldnā€™t find Katherine. At 4:15ā€¦
